Sustainable development and boundary conditions

In brief

In the Dutch coastal area, so far the weighing of planning and safety-related issues has not been using a standardized approach. Within this working area, on the basis of sound analysis of important and recurrent coastal safety issues and on the basis of up-to-date knowledge on coastal morphology, a consistent and thourough approach is being developed for some issues, either separate or integrated. Using this approach, the actual and future safety levels, the cost of implementation and of maintenance of safety measures, the spatial occupation of this kind of measures, the local and regional effects of safety measures and the risk contours can be assessed for use.
